Our Story
- We developed the initial search engine to fill a market gap. Rising social acceptance of buying secondhand and refurbished items led to a boom in circular economy marketplaces. However, so much choice carries with it navigational difficulties.
- Aggregation has been a solution in areas such as travel, insurance and property for decades; but providing clarity and convenience in such a crowded environment like pre-loved is still new.
- We discovered the need businesses have to use their influence for change in a measurable way.
Fast moving social requirements
- This acceleration towards a more sustainable living and working environment means businesses are under pressure to be sustainable. They look first at internal choices and sustainable practices.
- Good actions include swapping your energy provision to a green supplier. Using public transport not cars and choosing your supply chain with care are also initially logical steps.
- However, once the big boxes are ticked there are limited ways many businesses can reduce their carbon footprint. A brands’ influence over its community and customers is often forgotten.
This is where Rumage steps in
- Combining database and AI technology, we provide a refined view of many millions of items available. The result is the ability for people to choose swiftly. A well placed reminder that refurbished or secondhand things can be a viable alternative to new, leverages new technology against the growing desire to be greener.
Impending legislation
- Since January 5, 2023 the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires large and listed companies and some non-EU companies to report on social and environmental issues.
- The reporting framework around sustainability is maturing. Scope 1 and 2 are comparatively more easily understood than scope 3, which despite being well defined, continues to be opaque for many businesses to measure.
- However scope 4, which is the brands influence on peoples behaviour, resulting in the avoidance of carbon production, is comprehensively simpler but until now hard to measure accurately. Read here why its important to provide a sustainable report.
